Artist Statement:

As a multidisciplinary artist, my practice experiments with material across a range of platforms. The most predominant theme featured within my work utilises a method of building up layers of varied material, whilst mimicking and over exaggerating the natural lines and sections found within a landscape. The idea of transparency behind the process of making is an ideology I value strongly throughout all aspects of my work, with focus on a haptic, gestural approach to applying texture and mark-making techniques. My most current series of work documents an experience of a frequently taken journey throughout my childhood, in the Yorkshire dales. Though my work primarily explores landscape, there is also a strong interest in creating sculptures that emphasise the use of material. When working with sculpture, I play with a process of pushing the boundaries of my chosen material. To do this, I use a method of balancing materials, often found or recycled, against each other until the structure is at its pivotal point before collapse. By forcing materials to act in this way, the sculptures capture high levels of both tension and fragility throughout their structures.
